The local area offers lots of brilliant activities to see and do. Lower Murlough Cottage itself is on the banks of the Moneycarragh River, overlooking Murlough Inner Bay. Murlough Nature Reserve and Murlough Beach make up the surrounding area with the beach a short walk away through the famous dunes and heathland. The area is perfect walking, fishing, rambling, painting and bird watching amongst many other activities.

The village of Dundrum is a short walk away and a visit to the beautiful ruins of Dundrum Castle will afford spectacular views of the area including Dundrum Bay, Murlough and The Mournes. The popular seaside town of Newcastle offers hotels, shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and lots of activities including the Promenade, The Rockpool and Tropicana. The NITB Visitor Centre is situated on Main Street and can offer lots of visitor advice.
